CONVERSATION
"I Wanna Talk About Me"
We talk about your work how your boss is a jerk
We talk about your church and your head when it hurts
We talk about the troubles you've been having with your brother
About your daddy and your mother and your crazy ex-lover
We talk about your friends and the places that you've been
We talk about your skin and the dimples on your chin
The polish on your toes and the run in your hose
And God knows we're gonna talk about your clothes
You know talking about you makes me smile
But every once in awhile
I wanna talk about me
Wanna talk about I
Wanna talk about number one
Oh my me my
What I think, what I like, what I know, what I want, what I see
I like talking about you, usually, but occassionally
I wanna talk about me
I wanna talk about me
We talk about your dreams and we talk about your schemes
your high school team and your moisturizer creme
We talk about your nanna up in Muncie, Indiana
We talk about your grandma down in Alabama
We talk about your guys of every shape and size
The ones that you despise and the ones you idolize
We talk about your heart, about your brains and your smarts
And your medical charts and where you start
You know talking about you makes me grin
But every now and then
I wanna talk about me
Wanna talk about I
Wanna talk about number one
Oh my me my
What I think, what I like, what I know, what I want, what I see
I like talking about you, usually, but occassionally

Burgoon & Hale Fundamental Relational Themes
In the song "I Wanna Talk About Me" by Toby Keith a man and woman are in what seems to be a romantic relationship, but their conversation is not going so well. Verbal dominance is happening. Verbal dominance happens when one person is controlling the conversation. (Guerrero-17) This is sometimes done using commands. The woman in the conversations is not commanding, but she is demanding. She wants
attention on her one-hundred percent of the time. She has verbal dominance, because they are only talking about what she wants to. He admits to wanting to occasionally talk about himself, but that is not an option if he is talking. In the video he is following her or sitting down when she is talking. This also establishes dominance from the difference of height. When he has had enough he stands up showing a change in the conversation. He also has poor posture in the beginning indicating that he has low self-esteem and that he is submissive. You can tell she is most defiantly in charge just from their non-verbals.

Self Disclosure in Relationships
RECIPROCITY OF SELF DISCLOSURE-
"For a relationship to flourish self disclosure must be reciprocal" (Guerrero-128). The whole song is about how she is the only one self disclosing. That is why he is getting upset. The relationship cannot grow unless he is able to self disclose. There was a moment in "Sure Thing" that reminded me of this song. It is when Betty goes on a rant about how he is not who is says he is and how he has a girlfriend in Belgium. While the tone of the conversation is different, the idea is the same. The woman from the song is just going on and on about herself and not bothering the learn about him. If Betty would have allowed Bill to do a little self-disclosing before she made assumption she may have found he was a nice guy or her theory was correct. Either way there is a better way to build a relationship with someone other than talking all the time. The about of disclosing should be equal for the relationship to be healthy.
